Abstract

A new simple and sensitive extractive spectrophotometric method for the determination of mercury (II) with potassium benzyl xanthate (KBX) has been developed. Mercury was complexed with KBX to form light yellow colour Hg-KBX complex and was extracted in to methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK). The complex has maximum absorbance at 375nm. The molar absorbitivity and Sandell's sensitivity of the complex was 2.609×10^-3 L.mole^-1.cm^-1 and 1.673×10^-2μg/cm² respectively. The developed method obeys Beer's law in the concentration range of 1.0 to 20 ppm. The composition of the complex (metal:ligand) was 1:2. The developed method was applied for the determination of mercury in sewage waste and spiked water samples.

Abstract

A sensitive and simple spectrophotometric method was developed for the determination of Chromium(VI) with Isonitriso p-isopropyl Acetophenone Phenyl Hydrazone. Chromium was complexed with Isonitriso p-isopropyl Acetophenone Phenyl Hydrazone and the reddish yellow colour complex was extracted into methyl isobutyl ketone. The absorbance of the complex was maximum at 443 nm. The molar absorptivity of the complex was 2.78 x 10³lit.mol^-1cm^-1 and Sandell’s sensitivity was 2.67 x 10^-2 μg/cm². The system obeyed Beer’s law over the concentration range of 0.5 to 20 ppm. The composition of the complex (metal: ligand) was 1:6. This method was employed for the determination of chromium in Goa Beans and Soya Leaves Sample

Abstract

Physico-Chemical analysis of well and bore well water samples was carried out from eleven sampling stations of Guntur District for a period of two months from August to September 2009. The analysis of different parameters namely-pH, turbidity, color, total alkalinity, total hardness, chloride, sulphate, nitrate, TDS, DO, BOD, COD and fluoride were carried out as per standard methods. The parametric ratios and variation of temperature with D.O and Nitrate were studied. The results indicate that the fluoride and calcium in some sampling stations were found above the permissible limits.
